The Five Things That Make Us Different

What sets Sanctuary Cozumel
apart from any program you've encountered.

We could list two dozen ways Sanctuary Clinics Cozumel is different from a conventional treatment program. These five matter most. Each one is laid out below — what it means, why we built the program around it, and what it looks like in practice.

Five reasons families
choose Sanctuary Cozumel.

A short tour of what makes this program different. Each card jumps to a longer section below.

A Christ-centered community
practicing behavioral health and recovery.

Wherever Christ is, there is truth, light, and love.
The heart of Sanctuary

At Sanctuary, healing and hope are discovered in the context of an authentic, loving, supportive Christian community. Your care team includes psychiatric experts and a staff of licensed and experienced clinicians and therapists, many of whom live here on the property, alongside patients.

Your pathway to health and wholeness is not a solitary trek — but a shared journey. The support, encouragement, and accountability of loving relationships as you focus on healing are of inestimable value to the process.

You're not alone.

Cozumel isn't a bonus.
It's part of the treatment plan.

Geographic separation from familiar environments and triggers is one of the most evidence-backed factors in lasting recovery. And Cozumel offers exactly that.

Institutional Setting

What those places ask of the body.

  • Fluorescent lights overhead, hour after hour.
  • Recycled air. Climate-controlled and still.
  • The constant hum of mechanical systems.
  • A built environment that was never designed with human nervous systems in mind.
Sanctuary Cozumel

What this island offers instead.

  • Clean air. A coastline you can hear.
  • The sea always near. Trade winds carrying the smell of salt water past every window.
  • A pace of life that institutional settings simply cannot replicate.
  • Treatment here isn't separate from the place. The place is part of the treatment.

Healing is not a solo journey.
Bring the person who matters most.

A spouse or family member can travel with you to Cozumel, staying close throughout your treatment, with their own restorative experience while you do the deeper work.

They can rest. Quiet hours by the water while you do the deeper work — restoration the same things on the island offer our patients.

Attend select sessions when appropriate. Family sessions are scheduled when the clinical team determines they would be supportive of treatment.

Take in the island. Walk the coast, swim, read, or join one of our curated weekend excursions through the Yucatán.

Pair their stay with medical or dental care. Through our Medical Tourism program, loved ones can access trusted specialists at a fraction of U.S. prices.

The road back is easier
when you don't walk it alone.

For decades, treatment programs have asked patients to step away from the people who love them, then return home and try to integrate. Sanctuary Cozumel takes a different view.

The presence of someone whose face already feels like home changes the work — for the patient, and for the loved one too. Read more →

life

Held to standards beyond
our own walls.

Sanctuary Clinics Cozumel holds itself to the rigorous standards of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) — an independent, internationally recognized seal of clinical and ethical quality.

CARF International — accreditation status pending confirmation

Accountable to something larger than ourselves.

CARF accreditation is one of the most important credentials in behavioral health. It's how families and referring professionals know an organization meets standards of clinical and ethical quality that go beyond what any program can claim on its own.

It's one more way we hold ourselves accountable to the people who trust us with their healing.

CARF accreditation details will be featured here once final status and directory information are confirmed by the client.

A dedicated accreditations page is coming. For specific questions about credentials in the meantime, our admissions team can answer directly.
